Hole Punch clouds are very strange clearings in the cloud cover. The appear as clear patches of sky in the shapes of circular holes but also as rectangles and even pentagrams. The Hole Punch Cloud then turns into a Fallstreak Hole, where ice crystals or cloud streams out of the hole in an odd but constant pattern. Whatever process or force that creates Hole Punch Clouds has to explain the varying shape of them and the wierd associated Fallstreak Hole.

Hole Punch clouds appear first as, normally a circle or oblong (cigar shape) hole in the cloud and then the Fallstreak hole may appear later but not always. The Fallstreak hole is seen by virga, which is clouds streams of ice being pushed or pulled away and downwards from the center of the Hole Punch cloud

What process or effect forms Hole Punch clouds?

There is no definite answer as to what process formsHole Punch clouds, all the suggestions you read are theories including the standard scientific theory. Some theories of what causes Hole Punch cloud are based on more accepted ideas than others. So, it is still a mystery that will hopefully be solved soon. The standard explanation for what forms Hole Punch clouds is to do with supercool ice crystals and jet airplane exhaust material. The issue with this theory is that it still does not explain the shapes that can be seen.
